Sometimes if you have a cavity, a deeper crack in your tooth, trauma to the tooth, or a leaking restoration, the soft tissue inside the canal of your tooth called dental pulp may become infected or abscessed, leading to great discomfort and pain. You may also experience severe sensitivity to cold and hot food and liquids accompanied by spontaneous throbbing. This condition can only be treated with what’s called root canal treatment.
During root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, a dentist will anesthetize the tooth, and carefully clean, disinfect, and fill the interior of the affected tooth to prevent any other bacteria from entering. To return the tooth to its functioning capacity, the last step of root canal therapy consists of restoring the tooth with a tooth-coloured dental crown.
If you are experiencing severe tooth pain and suspect you might need this treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact us immediately or click to request an appointment online.
