Wisdom Teeth Removal: Treatment & Aftercare

Wisdom teeth removal is one of the most important dental procedures you will receive from your dentist. It is a process that determines your future dental outlook or that of your child. As such, you must make sure you pick a reputable, highly trained and experienced family dentist to avoid complications.
During Removal
Established Calgary dental clinics offer this specialized dental care service. At the clinic, your dentist will either use general anesthesia, sedation anesthesia or the common local anesthesia injected near the site of extraction. An incision is then made to expose the tooth before it is extracted.
Once extraction is complete, the dentist will clean the tooth area and gum and if necessary stitches the wound for enhanced healing. All this is done using sterilized equipment and materials to avoid infection.
Treatment and Aftercare
After extraction, treatment using antibiotics to avoid infection is critical. More importantly, you will need to follow these aftercare instructions:
• Use a gauge given by the dentist to avoid excessive bleeding and promote healing.
• Treat any pain with medication prescribed by the dentist. A cold pack against your jaw also works magic after wisdom teeth removal.
• Avoid strenuous activity, fibrous foods or other activity that might remove the blood clot leading to more bleeding. More importantly, don’t brush or rinse your mouth as this will dislodge the blood clot leading to slow healing.
• Drink lots of beverages, but avoid alcohol and caffeine for a day or two.
• Call your dentist in case of increased swelling after 3 days, if there is excessive bleeding, fever or any other condition that was not existent before your visit to the dentist.
If you are looking for wisdom teeth removal services in Calgary, call us now on (403) 254-0406.

Can a Sedation Dentist Open the Door to Better General Health?

If you experience some fear when visiting dental clinics, do not worry, you are not alone. Dental anxiety is a common phenomenon in America, and can be a real problem if it prevents you from getting the help you need from a dentist when you have a problem.
What is sedative dentistry and why should I get it?

However, thanks to the services of our sedation dentist here at Millrise Dental, you can allay your fears and get the help you need without any worries. Tolerating disease and/or discomfort because of anxiety can be more dangerous than you thought – studies have come out linking poor oral health to several major diseases, specifically cardiovascular diseases.

Aside from that, here are a few reasons you may want to find a sedation dentist in Calgary to help you overcome anxiety and get your treatment procedures:

• Gum disease has been shown to be a contributing factor towards low birth weight and/or premature delivery
• Untreated gum disease can make it much harder for diabetics to keep track of their blood sugar level
• Severe untreated gum disease can lead to inhalation of bacteria into the lungs resulting in bacterial pneumonia and other related respiratory complications

How safe is it?

Sedative dentistry has become an acceptable practice in many states, including ours, and patients that are affected by dental anxiety are advised to entrust their care to practices that include this novel, but safe, procedure.
The option of neglecting oral care has far more dire consequences, which is why it’s important to identify a practitioner you’re willing to work with so that you can get help. If you’re looking for a sedation dentist here in Calgary, call (403) 254-0406 today and we will connect you to the best team and practice available here at Millrise Dental.
