Dental Emergencies

Our Dental Emergency Policy

We are proud to be here for you and your family no matter what day or time your dental emergency happens. When you call us at (403) 254-0406, our dentist’s numbers will be shared with you in our voicemail greeting.

What is a Dental Emergency?

The majority of problems can be taken care of during regular office hours. If you are experiencing severe symptoms, such as those shown below, you may be experiencing a dental emergency.  Call our office (403) 254-0406, and use our dentist’s contact numbers for after-hours emergencies.

Dental emergencies include:
  • Serious injury to your teeth, mouth or jaw
  • Unmanageable pain in the mouth area
  • Heavy or persistent bleeding
  • Substantial swelling of the face, mouth or neck

NOTE: if any of the symptoms appear life threatening, call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest hospital room.

Here are some of the most common emergencies that we receive calls about.

Toothache

If you are experiencing a toothache, call us to speak us. It’s fine to take some pain medicine containing Acetaminophen (e.g., Tylenol) or Ibuprofen in the meantime.

Using an ice pack on the face adjacent to the sore tooth may also help to ease the pain.

Chipped or broken tooth

Broken teeth have a good chance of being saved. Call us and we’ll have a dentist see you right away.

Knocked out tooth

It’s important that you act very quickly when a tooth is knocked out –within 10 minutes a tooth has a very good chance of taking root.  Call us immediately and if the tooth looks clean, try placing it back in its socket. Alternatively, put the tooth in a container of cold milk while on your way to the office.

Food or other particle stuck in between the teeth

If the item cannot be removed with gentle use of floss, then call us.  Trying to remove the object on your own could be dangerous.

Missing a Filling

If you suspect that a filling has fallen out, give us a call to discuss your symptoms.  In the meantime, you can use a piece of softened sugarless chewing gum to fill the empty space and temporarily protect the tooth.
